Nepal's forgotten flood victims
Continuous heavy rain has caused the Nayarani river to burst its banks and flood parts of Nawalparasi District, in the plains to the north of the Indian border. The flooding happened at night while people were sleeping, and has left many villages under water. According to local people, the water was neck high in places. It was hard for them to save lives, let alone think of saving clothes and food. One person told how he and his wife managed to climb a poplar tree to save their lives. They spent the night fending off snakes and scorpions.a
