More than 200 member nations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) compete in the 2016 Rio Games.The battle for Olympic medals will take place in 32 venues in Rio de Janeiro, plus five football co-host cities: Belo Horizonte, Brasília, Manaus, Salvador and São Paulo.
Women’s water polo starts at the Maria Lenk Aquatic Centre, where the powerhouse USA team take on Spain in a repeat of the London 2012 gold medal match, won 8-5 by the Americans. USA are world champions and the only team to have won a medal at all four Olympic Games since the women’s competition was introduced.
