Local authorities in Chitwan on Saturday rescued a Philippine woman from her husband, who has allegedly been abusing her physically and emotionally.
Joyalen Gres Talormo Maijeres, who had been married to Jiban Thapa of Ratnanagar Municipality-4 for three years, has been rescued with the help of police and a social organisation, said Chief District Officer Binod Prakash Singh.
Thapa first met Maijeres in Dubai while he was holding a job in the financial capital of the United Arab Emirates. They soon fell in love tied the knot.
“He would often get drunk and beat me. I cannot stay with him anymore,” Maijeres said of Thapa. They have two sons. Chief of the Adarsha Rehabilitation Centre Mina Kharel said they have been providing shelter to the woman and her kids for the past four months. “She has no marriage certificate nor her husband had registered births of their children,” said Kharel, adding that a representative of the centre had taken her to Kathmandu where she would be handed over to the Philippines Consulate. Meanwhile, the District Police Office, Chitwan, has started interrogation with Thapa.
