The 2016 Summer Olympics are commonly known as Rio 2016, as this competition will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The host city of Rio de Janeiro was announced at the 121st IOC Session held in Copenhagen, Denmark, on 2 October 2009.
Three cities have been chosen by the IOC to host upcoming Olympic Games: Rio de Janeiro for the 2016 Summer Olympics, Pyeongchang for the 2018 Winter Olympics, and Tokyo for the 2020 Summer Olympics.There are many sports that easily make the required numbers but are not recognized as Olympic sports, mainly because the IOC has decided to put a limit on the number of sports, as well as events and athletes, in the Summer Olympics in order not to increase them from the 28 sports, 300 events and 10,000 athletes
